Nestled in the vibrant suburb of Osborne Park, Western Australia, Smokey Loft by Mountain Mantras offers a unique and authentic culinary journey into Bhutanese cuisine with a special focus on momos — the beloved Himalayan dumplings. This charming momo restaurant deftly combines traditional Bhutanese flavors with a warm and inviting atmosphere that makes every meal feel like a celebration.
The true star of the menu is, of course, the Bhutanese-style momos. Whether you prefer the tender Meat Momo, packed with your choice of pork, beef, or chicken minced to juicy perfection, or the Veg Momo, which combines fresh vegetables and cheese wrapped in delicate plain flour dough, each bite delivers an exquisite balance of earthiness and spice. For an added dimension of comfort, the Jhol Momo — steamed dumplings served in a fragrant, subtly spiced broth featuring garlic, turmeric, and Sichuan pepper — invites you to savor warmth in every sip and bite.
Beyond momos, Smokey Loft by Mountain Mantras presents a thoughtfully curated range of appetizers and hearty main dishes. Start your meal with appetizers like the Shabalay, a satisfying meat puff with a crisp exterior and savory beef mince filling, or the fiery Chicken Chilli, where tender fried chicken melds with fragrant spices and fresh capsicum, offered with just the right kick of chili powder. For mains, the Chicken Curry Rice Set is a sumptuous choice, featuring tender chicken simmered in a rich sauce with the warming notes of ginger, garlic, and yoghurt, paired perfectly with fluffy rice.
What truly elevates the dining experience here is the genuine care in each dish that resonates with the reviews from delighted patrons. Customers like Kuenga “James” Nidup have praised the “absolutely delicious momos,” highlighting their fresh fillings and exceptional dipping sauces, while nidup Z fondly recalls a perfectly balanced sikam rice dish accompanied by creamy ema datshi and rich beef curry that felt “made with care.” The communal spirit of Bhutanese dining shines through, with guests like Pema Yeshi embracing the finger-licking joy of sharing plates amongst friends.
The ambiance of Smokey Loft is just as noteworthy — clean, pleasant, and inviting, with an open and airy interior that complements the authenticity of the food. The owner, Tashi, warmly greets guests and offers insightful introductions to the menu, ensuring newcomers and seasoned diners alike feel at home. Carolena Boyd’s visit captures this spirit beautifully, noting how the restaurant buzzes with energy on a busy Friday night, yet remains warm and welcoming.
For those seeking an honest and soulful culinary adventure in Osborne Park, Smokey Loft by Mountain Mantras is a delightful find. Whether you’re craving the soft, flavorful momos or rich, aromatic Bhutanese curries, this restaurant promises a genuine taste of the Himalayas paired with heartfelt hospitality. It’s not just a meal — it’s an experience that invites you to explore new tastes and savor the profound comfort of home-cooked goodness.

It was just me and a friend out for dinner, and the moment our Set Sikam Rice arrived, with separately ordered Ema Datshi and Beef Curry, it was something beyond the regular. The sikam was perfectly balanced, the ema datshi creamy and comforting, and the beef curry was rich with flavour. Each bite had a warm, rich, and made with care, feel. The restaurant itself had a clean and pleasant ambience, making the dining experience even more enjoyable. Its location is quiet and serene, with plenty of parking space available, very convenient and comfortable overall.

Dined at this delightful restaurant last evening and was so pleasantly surprised at how good it was. Easy parking and easy to find the interior is lovely and open. The food was outstanding, with fresh tasty Chicken Curry and Goat Curry and super soft dumplings. Dishes were presented in the Bhutanese way and looked authentic on a metal platter. Beautiful. We will be back soon to try some of the other dishes on the menu. Such a great experience.

The Fab Five ladies walked in… we were hungry and the aroma of the food only increased our appetite. We ordered and the moment the dishes arrived we dug in (hence no photos). We shared everything; each bite was finger‑licking good and yes, we ate with our hands! We even packed a few leftovers to take home. Amazing food, amazing place.

We visited this delightful restaurant on a Friday evening and it was BUSY! After being warmly greeted by Tashi the owner, he kindly explained the menu to us as we had never eaten Bhutanese food before and were very keen to try the more typical dishes. The food was lovely, Tashi and his family delightful and the atmosphere good. We are so pleased we ventured to this restaurant which is tucked away in Osborne Park and will return again.
